Register for Denver youth basketball
DENVER – Registration is open for the Denver Basketball League, which will include boys and girls in grades 5-12. Each gender will play separately. The season runs mid-March through early June.
Player evaluations will be: boys, grades 4-5, 6:30 p.m. March 7; boys, grades 6-7, 7:30 p.m. March 7; boys, grades 8-9, 6:30 p.m. March 8; boys, grades 10-12, 7:30 p.m. March 8; and all girls evaluations, 10 a.m. March 9.

Lincoln Charter wins Talon Challenge benefit event
DENVER – Lincoln Charter swept all six basketball games – boys’ and girls’ middle school, junior varsity and varsity – against Thomas Jefferson Academy in the Talon Challenge on Feb. 1. It was the schools’ annual event to raise money for cancer research.
Miles Boone’s 20 points led the Lincoln Charter boys to a 76-36 romp. The Eagles built a 46-12 halftime lead, and also had strong games by Christian Hilty (17 points), Andrew Howard (eight points, five blocks) and Ryley Harbor (eight points).
Lincoln Charter won the girls game 47-45 behind Caitlyn Miller (15 points), Mary Canipe (10 points), Jazra Standly and Kristen Camp (eight points each).
Two SouthLake playerson national team
HUNTERSVILLE – SouthLake Christian Academy running back Robert Washington Jr. and wide receiver Conner O’Donnell were named to the USA Football Under-16 National Team.
The team, consisting of the top 42 freshman and eighth-graders nationwide, played Team Canada in Austin, Texas, on Feb. 6 in the International Bowl.
O’Donnell caught 39 passes for 919 yards and five touchdowns to help the Eagles (11-2) reach the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III championship game.
Washington, despite missing two games with an injury, rushed for 1,017 yards and 11 touchdowns. He averaged more than 11 yards per carry.
