CHARLOTTE – The Charlotte Folk Society will offer two scholarships, the Marilyn Meacham youth scholarship and the Spencer-Bryant adult scholarship, to the Swannanoa Gathering at Warren Wilson College this year.
Scholarships cover the $485 tuition fee and a $385 room and board fee. Winners choose from a number of week-long programs at the school this summer.
Students or folk musicians, either instrumental or vocal, playing at the intermediate or advanced level may apply for the Meacham award. Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 21.
Applicants for the Spencer-Bryant award must be at least 22 and advanced performers of folk music, dance or folklore or those actively involved in supporting or preserving traditional and contemporary folk music and art.
Both awards require applicants to be either a Charlotte Folk Society member or resident of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln or Union counties in North Carolina or Lancaster or York counties in South Carolina.
