Charter school plans for fourth Talon Challenge
But it’s an important run.
Students from Lincoln Charter and Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy ran a basketball Jan. 30 from the Denver campus to the Forest City campus to launch the fourth annual Talon Challenge on Feb. 1.
The Talon Challenge is an event that centers on middle school and high school basketball games between the two schools. The schools donate the proceeds from the challenge to the V Foundation, a North Carolina-based nonprofit organization that supports cancer research.
In the past three years, the schools have raised approximately $15,000 for the V Foundation, donated several hundred pints of blood, and students have run more than 200 miles between the two campuses.
The schools are accepting donations for the game ball run, and all of the money pledged will go directly to the V Foundation.
Talon Cards are available for a suggested donation of $1 from all school offices. The cards are a way to recognize a loved one whose life has been changed by cancer.
The schools will also be selling T-shirts to raise money.
Lincoln Charter and Thomas Jefferson Classical compete by earning points for their efforts throughout the week. The school with the most points takes home the Talon Challenge trophy.
