DENVER – A mother and her 1-year-old daughter died Wednesday, May 30, when their car collided head-on with a tractor-trailer on N.C. 150 in Catawba County.
Tisa Michelle Strickland, 26, of Maiden, was driving with her daughter Payton Dellinger, headed west on N.C. 150 around 8 a.m. when her 2007 blue Pontiac Grand Prix hit an oncoming truck.
The driver of the truck was not seriously injured.
State Trooper William Martin said Strickland had apparently crossed the center line.
“Independent witnesses said it appeared she was passing two vehicles in front of her, and she met head-on with a tractor-trailer headed east on (N.C.) 150,” Martin said.
The crash shut down traffic on N.C. 150, less than a mile east of N.C. 16-Business, for about four and a half hours. The road reopened around 12:30 p.m.
Officials at the Denver Fire Department reported that they dispatched two trucks to help the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire & Rescue.
Martin said Thursday, May 31, the wreck was under investigation and troopers had not yet determined the speed of either vehicle.
