LINCOLNTON – Authors of “VALLEY ABLAZE: Pottery Tradition in the Catawba Valley,” a 242-page hardcover book that chronicles the rich pottery tradition of North Carolina’s Catawba Valley from the late 18th century to the present, will sign copies of their work at the Lincoln Cultural Center.

The event, featuring authors Jason L. Harpe, Brian Dedmond and Melany Dawn Crouse, takes place 2-5 p.m. Dec. 16 at the cultural center, 403 E. Main St., Lincolnton.

The book, which will be on sale at the reception for $45 plus tax, spotlights more than 1,000 pieces from the region’s earliest documented potters, “face jugs” by Burlon Craig, works by contemporary potters who directly or indirectly learned traditional methods of production from Craig.

Pieces of Catawba Valley pottery will be displayed throughout the cultural center.

Twenty people who buy copies of the book will also take a commemorative piece, made especially for the event, while other pieces will be raffled at the event.
