Tickets on sale for Players show
Considered one of the company’s most ambitious productions, “Ragtime” opened on Broadway 13 years ago to critical acclaim. Davidson Community Players will perform the play Thursday through Sunday, June 16 through 19, and June 23 through 25.
“Ragtime” is based on the E.L. Doctorow novel about three disparate New York families just after the 20th-century a wealthy white couple; a Jewish immigrant father and his motherless daughter; and an African American piano player who teaches them about the interconnections of the human heart, the limitations of justice and the consequences of letting go of a dream.
Historical figures like Harry Houdini, J.P. Morgan and Emma Goldman make appearances in the play, but it is the musical score that carries the show, including gospel, marches, cakewalks and ragtime. The quintessentially American music serves as a metaphor for the syncopated, unpredictable political, social and cultural movements of the era.
Tickets for the show cost $22 for adults, $20 for seniors 65 or older and $12 for students.
