Nine-year-old Andrew Berley performed played his recorder during the fourth-grade music performance April 28 at Rock Springs Elementary School.

Kari Brown, the school’s music teacher, said the students have been working on the performance once a week for about five months. She’s taught them to play the recorder as well as singing and playing the ukulele. At the April 28 performance, students sang and played selections like “Ida Red,” “In the Pines,” “Sourwood Mountain” and “My Home’s Across the Blue Ridge Mountains.”
