Bringing strong community news to Denver
This publication will be the seventh newspaper in the Carolina Weekly Newspaper Group, which publishes The Herald Weekly in Huntersville, Mooresville Weekly and Mountain Island Weekly.
Almost every week at The Herald, we hear from residents and advertisers wanting more coverage in Denver. We heard you, loud and clear. And rather than simply expanding The Herald’s coverage area, we decided to give Denver its own paper.
Denver Weekly will give intensive coverage to the things that matter most to you, especially faith, community events and your children’s education, delivered in about 8,000 free copies each week. As with all Carolina Weekly newspapers, your Denver paper will bring you news about your churches, schools and local
government, a calendar of upcoming events and a strong weekly sports section.
And while Denver Weekly will not simply be general Lake Norman news, when regional issues arise, our sister publications around the lake will help make our
regional coverage comprehensive.
Community newspapers around the country are thriving because they offer what the 24-hour news cycle can’t: news and information for every-day life.
That is my goal for Denver Weekly. I remember what it was like as a child to see my picture in my hometown newspaper.
Community news is about celebrating the strengths of a community. Everyone has a story to tell, and I want to share those stories with you. You won’t read about Mecklenburg County in Denver Weekly. You’ll hear from Denver people and read about places and events in Denver.
A community newspaper is a tool for building community ties. I encourage you to use Denver Weekly to do just that. Let me know when you have something
going on, and I’ll let everyone else know.
In the journalism school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I focused on studying community journalism because I know how important it is to the people who grace the pages.
I hope to meet you in the coming months, as we work together to build a strong weekly Denver newspaper. Phyllis, April, Chris and I will be hard at work to bring you the information you need and the coverage you deserve.
In the meantime, let me know what you’re hoping to see in Denver Weekly. Call me at 704-766-2100 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
